There are a few misconceptions about heliskiing that we feel deserve to be cleared up, so that you have a better understanding of what you’re getting yourself into. So if you’re thinking of booking your trip next year, but aren’t sure if it’s for you – read on and see if this helps you decide!

Firstly, no – you won’t be jumping from a hovering helicopter, straight into near-vertical gully and charging like your life depends on it. Safety is key – that’s why we land the heli in a carefully-selected spot at the top of each run, and take a moment to kit up and plan the best line before carving it up!

In fact, you don’t need to charge near-vertical gullies at all, if you don’t want to. Here on the Troll peninsula, we have a wide range of terrain suitable for most skiers who are comfortable off the corduroy. Our mountains are treeless, which means if you can see it, you can probably ski it – there are runs for all abilities here! Our guides are also absolute professionals when it comes to selecting the most appropriate lines for the conditions and for you. So, if you’re an intermediate-advanced skier, and you’re happy riding in variable snow conditions, we’ve got you covered. (That said, if you DO want to ride as fast and steep as possible, we know our guides will be thrilled to meet you – and have you considered a private trip to ensure your group can charge hard together?)

Powder heli

When it comes to our heli-touring adventures, one thing we get asked a lot is whether you need to have ski touring experience to join. And the answer is… no! If you’re confident skiing downhill off-piste, and comfortable spending a day in the mountains, we’d love for you to join our touring experiences. Skinning uphill is a challenge, for sure, but if you regularly spend time hiking in the mountains, cross-country skiing, backpacking or trail running, we’re confident you’ll pick it up in no time.

Snowboarders – we haven’t forgotten about you! We love to have you on all of our trips, and can put you in touch with a reliable local retailer if you need to hire a board or splitboard. All of the same things apply to your experience level – you’ll be riding in variable conditions, often through classic Icelandic spring corn or hidden powder stashes, and our guides are just as adept at coaching first-time splitboarders as first-time ski tourers.

In summary, if you’re a strong intermediate skier or boarder, you want to have the ultimate snow experience, in long daylight hours with expert guides… then a heliski holiday with Summit Heliskiing might just be for you. Reach out today and get your 4- or 6-day 2024 adventure at 2023’s prices!
