It’s finally happening!

After an intensive few days training and reviewing our systems with none other than renowned IFMGA/ACMG Guide Colin Zacharias, we at Summit Heliskiing are delighted to see our heliskiing season getting off to a fantastic start. With excellent snow conditions, perfect weather, and top-notch accommodation at the Sóti Lodge, this season promises to be one of the best yet.

Colin Zacharias has been employed since 1980 in avalanche risk management, mountain guiding, and mountain safety. He is a world leading expert and curriculum developer in industry training programs. Most recently, he oversaw the first examinations within the newly developed guide training program for the Association of Icelandic Mountain Guides. Key members of the Summit Heliskiing Team were the first to graduate from the program.

Perfect conditions for a great heliskiing season

Clear blue skies and sunny days made for perfect heliskiing conditions. The mountains were full of untracked corn and secret powder stashes, and our guests treated to some epic views. Snow-covered peaks drop sharply into the sea, where the deep blue of the Arctic Ocean met the clear blue of the spring skies. Thus far, we’ve welcomed both first-time heliskiers and practised ski-racers. We’re loving seeing everyone’s wide smiles returning to the Lodge.

Those sunny days have also meant fantastic outdoor aprés – what better way to celebrate a great day skiing than with a couple of beers around an open fire, nestled in a cosy Icelandic valley?

And for those staying with us overnight, the accommodation at Sóti Lodge is unbeatable. We have designed the lodge with your comfort in mind, with contemporary en-suite bedrooms, a cosy lounge and dining area.  A heated drying room provides facilities for storing equipment. Next door, Barðslaug swimming pool (free for guests) also features a sauna and hot tub, perfect for relaxing sore muscles after a day of skiing or snowboarding.

Availability

We still have (extremely limited) availability between 5th and 7th May for anyone considering a last-minute addition to their holiday in Iceland.
